UL FSRI is currently accepting applications for advisory panel members as part of our 2015 DHS-FEMA grant titled “Study of Coordinated Fire Attack utilizing Acquired Structures”. This project looks to expand on a decades worth of research into ventilation and suppression tactics to quantify the necessary coordination for a safe and efficient fire attack. This project will utilize acquired structures to evaluate tactic effectiveness in single family homes, garden style apartments, and strip malls. The 15 member advisory panel will be utilized to ensure the project is relevant to the fire service. Members will be asked to review test plans, reports and training programs to provide experience based input to FSRI. For information on this project visit http://ulfirefightersafety.org/projects_blog/study-of-coordinated-fire-attack-utilizing-acquired-structures/.Applicants will be chosen based on the following application as a representative cross section of the U.S. fire service. Please fill out the application below and select ‘Submit’ to be considered for the panel. The application period will be open until June 30th, 2017. FSRI will notify selected applicants by July 31st, 2017.
What is expected of those selected? The project requires 3 trips for in person meetings; an Introductory Planning Meeting (most likely in fall 2017), Witnessing of Experiment(s) (TBD Based on structure availability) and a Summary Meeting (summer of 2019). UL FSRI will cover all travel expenses associated with these trips. We are not able to cover salary expenses for missed time as a result of attending the meetings. Permission to participate from your fire departments management is not required but we highly encourage it. Prior to the introductory meeting members are expected to familiarize themselves with the work conducted in earlier research projects (www.ulfirefightersafety.org/training). In between meetings there will be requests to share material such as incident reviews or training material that will help shape the study.
